About FIAGOP

Who we are

FIAGOP is the Italian Confederation of Parent Organizations of children and adolescents with cancer.
After many years of collaboration between the local associations, the Confederation was legally constituted in 1995 in order to strengthen the actions of advocacy of the associations both on a national and local level, to foster better communication and solidarity between groups, to better inform on the problems of childhood cancer and, through these means, to win the battle against these dramatic illnesses. FIAGOP is the only representative of the member Parent Associations on a national level.

FIAGOP is a founding member of the ICCCPO, International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organizations, working through information sharing and winning programs to better the care of children with cancer in all parts of the world.

Goals

In order to assist the member Associations in their work, FIAGOP intentions are to:

Incentive communication between the member association through a continuous exchange of experiences and projects.

Inform the institutions as to the needs of children/adolescents with cancer and of their families in order that they issue disposition on the regional, national or international levels.

Promote the diffusion of information through media campaigns, events encounters between the associations, the publication of a newsletter and the management of a national website.

Organize meetings and conventions with all interested parties for bettering the understanding of psychological and social problems of children and adolescents with cancer, of survivors, and of their families.

Stimulate and develop contacts with similar organizations in Italy and in other countries.

Represent the member Parent Associations on contacts with public and private organizations on a national and international level.

To guarantee a democratic management of the organization through networking and a spirit of openness in order to reach the common goals.

To act in such a way that all information on actions undertaken in carrying out federation activities is disseminated in a clear and direct manner.

About the Parent Associations

The member Parent Associations were founded independently at each hospital by parents of the children under therapy for tumors and leukemia with the purpose of alleviating the solitude that strikes the parents and offering assistance and aid to the children and their families.

Today, in Italy, there is a parent association working at almost all of the principal centers of Pediatric Oncohematology recognized by AIEOP, the Italian Association of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology .
The Parent Association deal with:

assistance to the children and their families;
support to the hospital centres they are tied to;
advancement of research in the field of paediatric oncology;
raising awareness in the general public through information on childhood cancer and its social and psychological consequences.

Lastly, it is in the very nature of these associations, composed of the parents themselves of children with cancer, to be profoundly committed to the cause of defending the social rights of the children and their families.

Common goal of the member Associations of FIAGOP

To guarantee to all children stricken by cancer the right to health and to a good quality of life and to their families the necessary support.

Support FIAGOP

FIAGOP helps directly the Member Parent Associations in their fight against childhood and teenage cancer.
